Treatment for Microtia and Anotia
The American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Inc. ("AAO-HNS") recognizes microtia and anotia as congential birth defects. These conditions are associated with appreciable psychological and functional ramifications if left untreated. Therefore, microtia and anotia shall be considered reconstructive surgery to restore a missing or significantly deformed body part visibly present under normal circumstances.

Guidelines are not a substitute for the experience and judgment of a physician and are developed to enhance the physicians' ability to practice evidence-based medicine.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Inc. and Foundation (AAO-HNS/F) Policy Statements are guidelines only. In no sense do they represent a standard of care.
